Dr. Chetna Bindra

Title:

Director, Business Development, Vision Technologies

What is your focus at Sarnoff?

My focus at Sarnoff is to win new business and grow existing business. Current business areas include applying real-time computer vision processing and related technologies in the application areas of automotive, robotics, security, surveillance and training. My primary focus is identifying business opportunities within the government and commercial world — includes reaching out to new clients, developing long-term relationships and working with clients to match Sarnoff’s capabilities to their needs, jointly building programs of value, developing teaming relationships and contributing to proposal development.

Describe a typical day for you at Sarnoff.

A typical day is fairly fast paced — focused on a combination of the following — meeting clients either onsite or at their site, identifying and reaching out to clients and brainstorming with technical/business
staff to identify, create and define solutions.

What experience did you have prior to joining Sarnoff?

Prior to joining Sarnoff, I was at the University of Pennsylvania

What is your background in academics?

Bachelor of Science, Physics, St. Stephens College, Delhi, India

Masters and PhD, Physics, University of Pennsylvania

Why did you choose Sarnoff?

Sarnoff offers a very unique opportunity in taking cutting edge research and making a business out of it — through contracts, spin off companies and products. My passion is in making a winning match between technology and client need/business opportunity. Sarnoff particularly provides an environment that has the small company excitement and potential for personal impact within a larger company infrastructure.

What is your proudest professional achievement?

My proudest professional achievement at Sarnoff, to date, was to identify the opportunity, assemble a multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational, collaborative team and lead the win of the first Sarnoff program with the US Department of Homeland Security over a lot of extremely good competition and through multiple, stringent down-selection rounds. Sarnoff had the opportunity to team with leading researchers, win a large program (that has continued over multiple years and could lead to possible product opportunities) and create value in the biological defense arena that could eventually save the lives of war fighters, first responders and civilians.
