Ad-Hoc Networking

Mobile ad-hoc networking is based on a protocol stack and system implementation that supports anywhere/anytime communication by enabling wireless networking between users in difficult transmission environments and for users from rapidly changing locations. Ad-hoc networks allow secure, reliable wireless connections that are not dependent on a single access point. Sarnoff has developed an advanced multi-hop, mobile ad-hoc communications and networking technology to provide highly efficient, flexible Ad-hoc networking solutions.

Ad-hoc networks incorporate a wide variety of practical capabilities. Because they operate independently of one single access point, they are extremely versatile — maintaining network connectivity instantly and reconfiguring on the fly whenever necessary. Ad-hoc networks maintain high network throughput with low end-to-end delay and delay jitter — important factors for streaming audio or video. They also provide a number of security capabilities, such as encryption compatibility.

Sarnoff’s ad-hoc networking technologies provide effective solutions across many applications. Our networking technology allows increased situational awareness — enabling team communication through point-to-point, point-to multi-point group communications and “walkie-talkie” broadcasts. Network users are able to maintain communication over their radios to “reach back” to home base when necessary. Ad-hoc networking offers voice as well as data transmission — supporting text messages, images, videos, and more.
