PRINCETON, NJ – May 6, 2008 – Sarnoff Corporation today announced the promotion of Gooitzen van der Wal to Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. Mr. van der Wal has been appointed based on his significant technical contributions and proven leadership within the scientific community throughout his 29 years with Sarnoff.
Mr. van der Wal has been the lead architect for the company’s embedded vision systems for more than two decades, and is the inventor/co-inventor on 14 patents, with 5 patents pending. He is the principle designer of Sarnoff’s Acadia® board, the world’s first system capable of real-time vision analysis. As such, colleagues and clients alike recognize him as a leading expert in vision hardware architectures and software algorithms.
“Gooitzen’s work with embedded vision systems is a significant part of what Sarnoff offers to the world,” said Dr. Peter Burt, Vice President of Vision Technologies. “Competency in both advanced vision software and hardware is a unique attribute in the vision industry, and Gooitzen has played a key role in Sarnoff’s success. His technical expertise has enabled the Acadia board to evolve through several generations of vision processing.”
Mr. van der Wal is the recipient of numerous awards throughout his distinguished career with Sarnoff. He has twice received the David Sarnoff Technical Achievement Award, as well as multiple recognition awards for his work in advanced vision processing. Mr. van der Wal holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Twente University in The Netherlands.
