PRINCETON, N.J. – May 4, 2009 – Norman Goldsmith, Director of Division Operations at Sarnoff Corporation, was awarded the 2009 Professional Achievement Award of the Alumni Association of Hunter College. Mr. Goldsmith received this award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the advancement of semiconductor technology.
Mr. Goldsmith’s 50-year tenure at Sarnoff Corporation has led to the development of numerous semiconductor technologies and manufacturing methods. The manufacturing processes for transistors he helped pioneer in the late 1960s, including RCA Clean and the deposition of oxides from silane, are still in use today. Additionally, as Program Manager, Mr. Goldsmith played an integral role in several video advancements at Sarnoff, such the development of the DirecTV encoding technology and the development of the HDTV prototype innovation. He has authored over 20 technical papers, holds four patents, and is a recipient of the Semi Award, the highest honor in the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturer’s field.
The Professional Achievement Award is presented to members of The Hunter College Hall of Fame, which Mr. Goldsmith was inducted into in 2006. The award was presented to Mr. Goldsmith at the 2009 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on May 1, 2009, at Hunter College in New York City, NY.
